Bangkok, Thailand – Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok will elevate the dining scene in Thailand’s dynamic capital city this month with the launch of basil, the newly reimagined Thai restaurant that celebrates the kingdom’s rich culinary heritage by giving a modern twist to time-honored dishes. First unveiled in 2004, basil reveals Simply “Aroi” on 18th April 2024, as it invites diners to step into a haven of gastronomy where each bite tells a story and every visit leaves a lasting impression.



Set on the first floor of Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, directly accessible from Asok BTS skytrain and Sukhumvit MRT subway stations, basil is perfectly positioned for hotel guests, local residents and international visitors alike. Lovers of Thai cuisine can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and step into a vibrant ambiance, where contemporary design meets classic Thai elements, with a lively open kitchen concept. With a choice of seating, from intimate tables and booths to comfy sofas and three private dining rooms, basil is ideal for every occasion, including life’s most important moments.


Led by Chef Manachai, who has worked in five-star hotels and fine-dining restaurants, basil will present premium Thai produce, responsibly sourced from sustainable suppliers including farms, fisheries and Royal Projects, as well as from an onsite organic Chef’s Garden. These highly authentic ingredients will be used to craft reimagined ancient recipes and regional specialties that will transport diners’ taste buds on a nationwide tour of the four culinary regions of the kingdom: north, northeast, central and south.


Signature dishes include enticing appetizers such as Goong Sarong, a tempting plate of prawns wrapped in a “sarong” of noodles, then fried until crispy and served with a sweet and tangy dipping sauce, Sua Rong Hai, so-called “weeping tiger” beef which is marinated in a blend of spices and grilled to perfection, and Khao Pad Pla Too, a classic recipe of fried rice with mackerel which dates from the Ayutthaya period. Thailand is also famed for its colorful salads and Yum Som O Goong blends refreshing bursts of pomelo with shrimp, herbs, fried onions and more.


This mouth-watering menu also features a series of wonderfully aromatic soups and curries, including the timeless classic Tom Yum Goong, a hot and sour soup with fresh river prawns, and Khao Soi, the traditional Chiang Mai-style curry with chicken, noodles and condiments, which was named as the “world’s best soup” by foodie website basil will also elevate Thai street food to exciting new heights with comforting dishes like Phad Thai Goong, stir-fried noodles with tiger prawns.




Every meal can end on a sweet note with a choice of light and refreshing Thai desserts, such as Khao Niew Mamuang, a classic combination of ripe mango with coconut sticky rice, and Piekpoon Kati Sod, a cool and creamy coconut pudding infused with pandan leaves. Naturally, every meal can be accompanied with an extensive selection of beverages, including fine premium beverages, spirits, cocktails and more.
