Engineering Good Connections – The Next 200 Years of Railways

What will railways look like in 200 years, and how will AI, data, and engineering innovation shape the future of low-carbon transport?

Join us for a special briefing with Rebeka Sellick MEng CEng FIMechE, Chair of the Railway Division of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), This engaging presentation is designed for both railway professionals and non-rail specialists. The technical talk celebrates the strengths of railway technology and explores how rail can maximise its role as a low-carbon, low-energy transport mode over the next 200 years.

Looking ahead to the year 2225, the session explores what size and shape future railways might take and what they could deliver in an AI-driven, climate-challenged world. It examines how to “engineer good connections” — between people, to inspire future engineers, and to better serve freight and passenger customers — with the aim of informing, inspiring, and stimulating discussion.
