The Young Professional’s group became active in 2017 following interest by some of the younger members of the chamber in having events that were more suited to junior staff in member companies and young entrepreneurs, helping them to develop their businesses, careers and networks in Bangkok.
The first event, held by the current incarnation of the group in 2017, was a very successful speed networking event with Richard Porter, British Embassy Director of Investment and Trade, as the guest speaker.
In 2018 the group organised three interactive networking events: at The British Embassy with the Ambassador H.E. Brian Davidson speaking; a panel discussion at the Oriental Residence on ‘shaping your own future’ and a group networking event at Jamie’s Italian with conversational topics of interest to members. This was followed by a charity evening at Diageo Moet Hennessey supporting the Foundation for Slum Child Care, and the end of year Inter-Chamber Young Professional’s networking event in November, in conjunction with AmCham, Franco-Thai and the German Chambers of Commerce Young Professional groups.
2019 saw the introduction of the ‘YP Extra’ events. These are events which are topic driven, ranging from International Women’s Day, the showcase of Culineur, a new cooking school and events around career development and progression.
So often the active members of the chamber are company CEOs, business owners, or senior managers so the aim of the group is to ensure that the chamber is benefiting the younger and more junior members of the chamber companies. It is also looking to ensure that these members, who are the future managers, CEOs and decision makers, are able to use the chamber to the best advantage of themselves and their companies.
The group are looking to welcome new members who are committed to contributing to the success of the Young Professionals, and who are willing to take an active role in event organisation, hosting and MCing.
