Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck from Bhutan visited Regent's International School, Bangkok on Thursday, 18th January 2024. Her Majesty came to open the Jubilee Building, toured the campus and spoke with students and faculty at the school’s Rama 9 campus. This is the second visit of Her Majesty to Regent’s International School Bangkok.
Regent's International School provides high quality education for students from 2 to 18 years of age. A truly international school with 60% Thai students and 40% of students coming from outside Thailand. 20 of our students (or 2.6%) are from Bhutan. There are currently approximately 800 day and boarding students studying at the school.
Dr. Virachaii Techavijit, the founder and CEO of the Regent’s School, provided the welcoming address at the event, which was attended by Mr. Andy Edmonds, the Principal, school faculty, parent representatives and all students, including Thais and those from overseas. Our Bhutanese students sang their national anthem in honour of Her Majesty. The visit also included a Thai dance and a performance from the school’s Orchestra, in addition to a solo saxophone piece.
The highlight of the event was Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck from Bhutan cutting the ribbon to open the Jubilee or Golden Jubilee Building. This new, purpose built, building is the learning centre of the school and includes a large capacity event room for up to 400 people, golf simulator room, dance studio and, on the second floor, an Olympic sized, 50 metre, swimming pool.
Her Majesty also spoke with Bhutanese students currently studying at Regent's International School. It has been an honour for the school to have been entrusted for more than 10 years to receive students from Bhutan to prepare them for world-class universities.
