BCCT members are invited to STCC Joint Chambers Business Talk on Managing Costs of Dispute Resolution on Wednesday 21 March 2018.

It may seem pessimistic, a jinx even, to think about what happens if a deal doesn't work out. But the unfortunate reality is that even the best of plans can go away; and if that happens, it's always better to be prepared.

One point often overlooked when signing a deal is how expensive legal costs can be if things go south. That expense grows considerably when you are contracting across borders. Painful bills can quickly pile up, whether to pay for lawyers and experts, or deposits and fees for courts and tribunals.

The objective of this talk is to raise awareness about ways in which legal costs can be managed right from the start before the deal is done, all the way to the conclusion of the dispute. Topics will include choosing cost-appropriate forums for claims and how you can obtain financing for cases. The aim is to ensure you enter contracts in the best position you can be should something go wrong.
