As the ASEAN Economic Community seeks to promote free movement of goods, services, capital and investment and certain skilled labour from 2015, it is important for companies, large or small, and individuals to incorporate a regional, AEC strategy into their intellectual property protection and commercialisation plans. There are challenges and advantages to be aware of, from ensuring IP is protected across the region, to reviewing contracts and partners and, importantly, corporate structure and taxation planning. This Boardroom Briefing will address the issues and provide practical advice to those looking to benefit from their IP in the AEC.

About the speakers:

JAMES EVANS, a UK-qualified lawyer, is a consultant with the Tilleke & Gibbins intellectual property group. James handles infringement matters in relation to all types of IP, with particular expertise in patent litigation (e.g. in the pharmaceutical field, in which he has acted for large pharmaceutical companies in litigation against generics companies), trademark infringement/passing off, copyright infringement, and alternative dispute resolution. James also has experience in media-related matters, having advised several international broadcasting and media companies on such subjects as advertising, broadcasting, online marketplaces, and file-sharing.

James has carried out mediations both at the Department of Intellectual Property and at Thailand’s Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court on patent and copyright matters. He also acts for a wide range of international and local clients in IP enforcement, such as civil actions in court and enforcement work with Thailand’s police force and Customs. In addition, James has significant experience in trademark and patent portfolio management at both the national and international level. He has also handled IP matters in Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia.

AMANDA DAVENPORT, Amanda has 8 years experience in KPMG’s International Tax practice. She has spent most of her career with the KPMG London team before relocating to Bangkok in 2013. In her present role Amanda works closely with a number of multi-national groups seeking to make tax efficient investments in Thailand and many Thai and Expat owned businesses in Thailand with plans to grow beyond Thai borders. Amanda has experience working on cross-border tax projects across Asia, Europe, Africa and the America’s, both from a UK and Thai perspective.

Amanda has a UK law degree and is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor (member of ICAS and CIOT
