DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION (DEI)

DEI Working Group Missions Statement

The BCCT Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group is dedicated to cultivating a collaborative and inclusive business community that values diversity and equity among its members. Our mission is to champion a culture where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered, contributing to a dynamic and progressive Chamber.

Our key objectives include:

  1. Celebrating Diversity: Embrace and celebrate the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our members, recognising that this diversity is a source of strength and innovation.
  2. Promoting Education: Provide accessible resources, workshops, and events that raise awareness and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues, fostering a more informed and culturally competent business community.
  3. Ensuring Equity: Advocate for fair and inclusive practices that eliminate barriers and biases, fostering equal opportunities for professional growth and success among our members.
  4. Advocating for Change and Inclusive Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders and external partners to influence broader societal change, advocating for policies and practices that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion not only within our Chamber but across the broader business landscape.  Ensure all members have the opportunity to engage and share their voice within the Chamber.
  5. Setting Inclusive Standards and Cultivating Allyship: Work collaboratively with the Chamber's leadership to establish and uphold inclusive policies and practices that set a standard for equitable business conduct within our community. Encourage the development of allyship among our members, fostering a supportive community that actively works together to create positive change.

Through these efforts, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group aims to contribute to the success and sustainability of the British Chamber of Commerce in Thailand, building a stronger, more resilient business community that reflects the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the global marketplace.

The DEI WG is switching focus from events to an advisory service and instead work on:

1. Inclusion in business campaign

  • invite leaders for quick filmed interviews at BCCT offices
  • our working group will reach out to their connections
  • Steps comms team will do the first interview from start to finish and coach the comms person at BCCT
  • our goal is to have 1 per month from May till year end
  • we might need your help to throw names our way from the TIBA award applications

2. Engagement with government

  • meet with K Pang and map out government agencies working on inclusion related topics such as parental policies, the new sexual harassment legislation, the work happening on gender markers etc
  • DEI working group to attend meetings with government to represent member needs

3. Inclusion tours

  • have companies host us for inclusion tours/visits/talks
  • strategy to engage inactive or new members
  • post visit comms

There is still a plan to engage in the annual pride event, just waiting for AMCHAM to confirm they will lead on that.
