Overview

This event will look at the practice of licensing intellectual property rights in a business world which is increasingly global and IT-based. It will examine – in non-technical language - the scope and context of licensing from a legal perspective, touching on relevant trends in patent, trade mark, copyright and emerging areas of intellectual property.

The event will also discuss some of the key tax issues which arise from common licensing arrangements, including an overview of the tax implications of such arrangements in Thailand and other key jurisdictions in the ASEAN region.

About the speakers:

Amanda Davenport is an Associate Director in KPMG Thailand’s International Tax team. Amanda is a UK Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor with over 8 years experience working with multi-national companies and SMEs predominantly in theUK,Singapore andThailand. Amanda has been with the KPMG Thailand office for two years, managing a broad portfolio of clients with in-bound and out-bound tax and legal structuring projects. She currently sits on the BCCT tax & legal committee and the EABC cross-sectoral committee.

Nic Garnett is a consultant with Tilleke & Gibbins International Ltd.. He is a UK solicitor specializing in intellectual property law and technology with unusually broad international experience having worked in Asia, Silicon Valley and throughout Europe. In addition to his practice in Thailand he is an advisor to Innovation UK and a consultant to WIPO. He is also an Associate Fellow of the University of Warwick.
